Harm ReductionThis is a broken crack pipe. Believe it or not people WILL use it in this condition to smoke. Obviously doing so can spread a plethora of blood born pathogens. Smoking out of old, broken pipes can cause blistered, cracked lips, leading to the cross contamination of saliva and blood if people are sharing supplies. In an ideal world, people wouldn't use substances, people who do use would quit with out issues... But if that doesn't happen, our next safest option is to practice harm reduction.. providing people who use substances safe, clean options to smoke or inject with can lessen the risk of infection, disease transferring, not to mention that smoking is generally safer than injecting. This does not promote drug use, it promotes safety. It promotes the increased chance for a person who uses substances to have more access to health care, to recovery options. If a person dies from an infection, overdose or disease, they don't reach the point of being able to choose recovery options. If you want to learn about harm reduction, especially safer use supplies please contact me or come see me at the Fledge M,W, Thursday and Friday noon until 5. |
